(Childhood and architecture) Children and childhood never not stood highest on the list when the Danish architectural history was written. It is surprising when one considers that there is hardly one group of the population which includ so many - and so different room to that for children. Schools, youth centers, day care centers, hospitals, nursing homes, reformatories, orphanages, libraries, playgrounds and children's rooms just to mention some of the most important. But there is talk about everyday architecture, and it requires a good eye for the interplay between the buildings and the childhood story, to spot the cultural and architectural heritage values that are stored here. In this book you will learn about the many different building types and different periods of understanding the child's scale. In its essence it is a story about the postmodern childhood emergence and institutionalization.

The book's more than 260 examples are from all regions of Denmark. The vast majority of the mentioned buildings have not previously found its way into the history of architecture. The book is written by Ning de Coninck-Schmidt and researched in collaboration with Jens Bygholm. Morten Vest has done the graphic design, been a picture editor and is responsible for a portion of the book's photographs. The majority of photographs are by a good friend, Jens Bygholm, who very sadly died before the book was finished.

The book was voted the "Best Historic Book, 2012”.
